Who we are...

This fall marks several new beginnings for Mountain Christian Academy. Formerly known as Signal Mountain Christian Co-op, the middle-school tutorial has updated its name to more accurately reflect its mission “partnering with Christian parents to provide middle school students with a nurturing, Christ-centered education that cultivates love for God, service to others, a love for learning, and a biblical worldview.”

 

MCA’s holistic approach combines a rigorous academic program and the development of Christian character. The classical approach integrates the connections between subjects and the relationship of those to a biblical worldview. The small class size limited to middle grade students allows discussion and analysis as instructors build student knowledge base, critical thinking skills, and creative expression. Each of these decisions enables teachers to connect with student learning directly alongside parents to encourage students in their strengths and bolster areas that need more development.

 

Families and staff at Mountain Christian Academy recognize the importance of serving others and incorporate service projects through the year such as helping Signal Mountain Social Services during December and Valentines for the older community in February.

 

Students attending MCA this fall (and teachers!) are excited to take advantage of the new construction at Wayside Presbyterian. MCA students will again enjoy informal time outside eating lunch on the porch, or even perhaps some class time on the porch, and especially, the upgraded recreation area. The new outdoor area will provide needed movement and breaks through the day.

 

The rigorous academic program is not all work and no fun. Even Latin II and III classes include “translation tea-time” for encouragement. Students and families can participate in field trips around the area such as the Carlos Museum, the Parthenon, the Frist Museum, and a couple closer to home, Everlasting Nation Museum and Reflection Riding. These Friday trips highlight history or science related to the focus for the school year. Other “just for fun” Friday activities include bowling or ice skating for the whole family. In addition, families, teachers, and staff can enjoy a multi-day trip in the spring to the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter. Trips are arranged to build on learning from the year and connections with one another during meals and games together.

 

Teachers and staff welcomed students and families back on August 31, 2026 as they begin a year immersed in Bible (Genesis), Ancient History, Mythology, Biology, Latin, Math, Language Arts, and Observational Drawing.
